Deloyd Leon Slowinski was born on March 23, 1938, the eldest son of nine children born to Leo and Agnes (Bikowski) Slowinski. He grew up on the family dairy farm in the Mill Creek area of Portage County and graduated from P.J. Jacob’s high school in 1956. After graduation, Deloyd moved to Menasha, Wisconsin, to work at Banta Publishing.

Deloyd met Shirley Shulfer while attending a dance at the Maryland Ballroom. They were married on September 2, 1961, at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Fancher, Wisconsin. In 1962, they returned to the Mill Creek area after purchasing the farm where they would raise their five children: Jan, Julie, Jim, Jeff, and Jodi. Deloyd and Shirley were excellent polka dancers and avid bowlers. Deloyd took great pride in his dairy farm, Steepleview Farms, where he worked until his retirement.

If Deloyd was not on a tractor or in the feed room mixing meals for the cattle, he was enjoying his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was an enthusiastic supporter of their musicals, concerts, and countless sporting events. At home, you could often find him cheering on the Packers, Brewers, and Badgers.

Over the years, Deloyd also became a fan of quite a collection of teams supporting his grandchildren. He could be found on the sidelines or bleachers cheering for the Sun Prairie Cardinals, Amherst Falcons, Nekoosa Papermakers, Wheeling Cardinals, Dominican Stars, Madison Wolfpack, Whitewater Warhawks, and Waupaca Lakemen. No distance was too far when it meant getting to watch one of his grandchildren participate. He was always there with a smile, a chocolate bar (or two), and a Pepsi, one very proud grandpa!

Deloyd is survived by Shirley, his wife of 64 years, and their five children: Janice (the late Samuel) Yakey, Julie (Todd) Makuski, James (Luis Serrat), Jeffery, and Jodi (Roger) Wilcox. He is further survived by six grandchildren: Samantha (Stephen) Evankovich, Elizabeth (Karl) Huemmer, Lindsey (Lucas) Esser, Ryan (Ellen Field) Makuski, Ashlyn Wilcox, and Jarett Wilcox; and seven great grandchildren: Charlotte, Emilia, Benjamin, Gabriel, Andi, Claire, and Kaci. Deloyd’s face always lit up as he watched his great-grandchildren play and seeing them experience life on the farm brought him great joy!

Deloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Agnes Slowinski; his infant brother Richard; his brother, Greg Slowinski; his sisters, Lorraine Wiernik, Leona Dekarske, and Delores Miller; his brothers-in-law David Wiernik, James Dekarske, and Norbert Miller; and his son-in-law Sam Yakey.

He is survived by his siblings, Barbara (Joe) Rybicki, Robert (Lucy) Slowinski, June Slowinski, and Elaine (Lenny) Przybelski as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorials to the St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church Wheelchair Lift fund a cause close to Deloyd’s heart and a meaningful way for him to continue to help make the church more accessible for Shirley and others in the community.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Deloyd at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Saint Bartholomew Catholic Church, 2493 County Road M, Stevens Point. Fr. Dennis Stanchik and Fr. Biju Kunjukutty MSFS will officiate Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of service at the church. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
