Dennis and Ellen, along with their children, enjoyed all its beauty and nature, and will continue to do so.

Dennis Jame Rutta, 79 of Stevens Point, passed away on July 20th, 2026 after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis and Congestive Heart Failure. Ellen held hands with him until his final breath. It was very peaceful.

Born: June 28 1947 - Ray R. Rutta and Margaret J. Rutta. He grew up in Stevens Point. Dennis attended local schools, graduating from P.J Jacobs in 1965. Dennis served his country enlisting in the Air Force from 1966 - 1970. He was employed at Roberts Irrigation Company after service from 1970 until retirement in 2011.

Dennis married the former Ellen Whittaker on October 16th, 1971. Married 54 years, she was the love of his life.

Gardening was a favorite pastime for him for many years. He worked it and Ellen canned the produce.

Harvesting wood to keep their home cozy and warm during the winter months was a labor of love whether by himself or with family members. This included wood to keep the Hunting cabin warm during the November annual deer hunt with “The Rutta Gang”

He spent many years as a Trapper, and in his retirement Dennis’ partner was his daughter. His hunting interests included bow and rifle seasons. Waterfowl. Summer fishing and Ice fishing.

He was a member of the Tomorrow River Valley Conservation Club for many years and Wisconsin Trappers Association.

After acquiring land and living there, Dennis and Ellen, along with their children, enjoyed all its beauty and nature, and will continue to do so.

Preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law Garth and Jinx Whittaker. Two brothers.

Dennis is survived by his wife Ellen, son Michael (Shannon), granddaughters Riley and Alex whom he adored, Plover, daughter Amy Stevens Point. Great friend Ron Konkol (Linda) lasted 54 years. Brothers-in-law, Carl Whittaker. Jim (Joan) Whittaker, nephews Eric and Ryan, and niece Kim. Extended family: Tom & Neva Hoeter. Their children: Tim (Sheri) Todd (Terrie) Daniel (Lori) and Sara (Jay), and the Hoerter grandchildren. Dennis and Tom have been soulmates for 70 years.
