Donald R. Grywacz:
Of Stevens Point, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, July 21, 2010 at Ministry-St. Michael's Hospital.
Age 80. Don was born September 1, 1929 in Stevens Point. He was the son of the late Edward and Esther (Firkus) Grywacz.
He attended local schools and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1950.
He then entered the United States Army on April 19, 1951 in Milwaukee. Don served with the 302nd Field Hospital as a medic during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on March 21, 1953 at Fort Custer, Michigan. After his separation, he was transferred to the National Guard Headquarters of the 120th for seven years. He was discharged from there as a Sergeant First Class as a medic.
His marriage to the former Eleanor Wrycza took place on May 30, 1953 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Collon, Wisc.
After their marriage, the couple settled in Stevens Point. His wife, Eleanor, survives.
Don worked for Shippy Shoes for over 42 years. He then worked for Taco Bell for over twenty years, retiring in February of this year.
He was a member of the St. Peter's Holy Name Society which included four years as treasurer. Don also was involved for over ten years with the Boy Scout Troop 290 of St. Peter's Church.
He was a member of the Msgr. McGinley Council #1170 of the Knights of Columbus of Stevens Point and also a member of Berens-Scribner American Legion Post 6. He also was an usher for St. Peter's Church for many years.
Don enjoyed Bingo, going to the Casino and football and baseball. His favorite past time was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife: Eleanor of Stevens Point, his two daughters: Judy Grywacz of Plover and Charlotte (Edwin) Kenowski of Stevens Point.
Three grandchildren: Jessica (Nicholas) Freeberg, Rebecca (Jay) Yulga and Brandon Newby.
Seven great-grandchildren: Vanessa, Dawn, Tanner, Gavin, Harmony, Austin and Torran.
Two brothers: Edward (Eleanor) Grywacz of Plover and Gerald Grywacz of Stevens Point.
He was preceded in death by one son, Steve, and one infant daughter, Mary.
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Rev. Kevin C. Louis officiating. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 9:00 AM Saturday at the St. Faustina Room of St. Peter's Church until the time for Mass. The Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
