After a courageous battle with cancer, Elaine F. Firkus, 74, of Stevens Point, passed away on Wednesday, Sep. 4, 2013, with her loving family by her side at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

She was born on April 26, 1939, in Stevens Point, to the late Ben and Laura (Cera) Kedrowski. On Oct. 10, 1959, her marriage to Leonard Firkus took place at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church-Fancher, in Amherst.

Elaine had worked at Sentry Insurance, Kmart, Ford Chiropractic, and most recently retired from Jim Laabs Music, where she did office cleaning. Her faith and church were very important to her and she was a Sacristan and member of the St. Stanislaus Rosary Society.

Her interests also included polka music, going to church picnics, playing bingo, gambling, word search puzzles, gardening, listening to Milwaukee Brewers games, spending time going to her grandkids' sporting events and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Leonard; daughter, Debbie (Ron) Biga; and sons, Duane (Alice) and Dale; special companion, Max; grandchildren, Jessica (Dan) Mancel, Nathan, Adam, Brandon, Ashely; step-grandchild, Jesse; great-grandchildren, Maddy and Mitch; sister, Betty (Edwin) Damask; brother, Richard (Colleen); sisters-in-law, Helen Kropidlowski and Evelyn (Andy) Smrz; and many nieces and nephews.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; mother-and-father-in-law, August and Pearl Firkus; brothers-in-law, Walter, Joseph and Robert Kropidlowski; and sisters-in-law, Bernice and Joyce.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sep. 10, 2013, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Stevens Point with the Rev. Thomas Lindner officiating. Burial will take place in Guardian Angel Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be at church on Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time for Mass. The rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
