Elsie (Firkus) Glodowski, age 94, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Dimensions Living in Stevens Point. Elsie was born in the Town of Hull on February 1, 1932, the daughter of Theodore and Veronica (Brilowski) Firkus.
Elsie attended grade school at Pulaski School near Jordan Park and graduated high school from St. Joseph’s Academy in Stevens Point. After high school, she worked as an accountant at Sears. On January 30, 1960, she married the love of her life, John Glodowski and shortly thereafter they began a family, at which point Elsie stayed home with her children for 14 years before returning to work at Sentry Insurance, where she retired in 1994 after 20 years of service.
Elsie led a very healthy and active life well into her 90’s which more often than not included the inseparable company of her loving sisters Lorraine and Sylvia. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Elsie’s greatest joy was her family. She had an incredibly loving and generous heart and took great pride and joy in the accomplishments of her entire family including nieces, and nephews.
She especially loved family gatherings and entertaining small groups of friends and family. She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed sharing beautifully presented meals. Elsie was an avid bridge player. She played in multiple card clubs and groups over the years, enjoying the company as much as the competition. Within the last few years, she took special pride and pleasure in teaching all of her children and grandchildren how to play the game, which resulted in some wonderful memories for the entire family.
Elsie prayed faithfully, loved God and her Catholic faith, which she actively displayed through volunteerism as a sacristan at Holy Spirit Church (St. Stanislaus), and additionally as a volunteer at Hospice, the hospital, the Red Cross, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and many other organizations, always giving generously of her time and heart.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Dimensions Living in Stevens Point, Aspirus Hospice and especially Sr. Rita Schmidt, SSJ-TOSF, for their loving care and support during the final weeks of Elsie’s life.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, John Glodowski; her daughter, Rebecca (Jeff) Tracy; her son, Michael (Beth) Glodowski; her grandchildren, Laura Tracy, Claire (Shane) White, Eric Tracy, Jackson Glodowski, Nicholas Glodowski, and Christina Glodowski; her great-grandchildren, Charlotte White and Camilla White; and her sister, Sylvia (Richard) Redding, along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Veronica Firkus; her sister, Lorraine (Edward) Soik; and her brothers, Raymond (Eleanor) Firkus, Ervin (Lorraine) Firkus, and Harold (Dorothy) Firkus.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 2151 Stanley Street in Stevens Point. Rev. Steve Brice will officiate. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 9:30 until the time of service at the church.
