Gary J. Omernik, age 75, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at St. Clare's Hospital in Weston, due to complications from a pulmonary emboli.
A lifelong resident of Polonia, Gary was the fourth of eleven children born to Myron Sr. and Cecilia (Lebryk) Omernik on June 13, 1943. As a boy he attended Sacred Heart Catholic Grade School and graduated from Pacelli High School.
He married Ann Modrzewski, the love of his life, on July 25, 1964. Together, they built a house and loving home for their three children. Gary was employed by Consolidated Papers for more than forty years.
Gary was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to everyone. He enjoyed reading, fishing, golfing, going to the casino, and a good movie. But more than anything, Gary enjoyed spending time with family—traveling with Ann, introducing his grandchildren to the classic comedies Green Acres and Hogan's Heroes, golfing with son Ken and grandson Vince, and visiting with daughter Kim. Gary always loved a good joke and fondly referred to close family by nicknames.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Ann Omernik; his daughter, Kim Omernik; his son, Kenneth (Judy) Omernik, and his grandchildren Emily, Vincent, Kate, and Jennifer. He is further survived by brothers Myron Jr. (Mary Ann) Omernik, Ronald Omernik and sisters Nancy (Paul) Domaszek, Donna (Dennis) Greco, Denise Omernik, sister-in-law Bonnie Omernik, brothers-in-law Richard Konkol, Joseph (Elsie)Modrzewski, John Modrzewski, and many nieces, nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his son, Kurt, his parents: Myron and Cecilia, brothers: Joseph, Robert, and Lawrence, sisters: Linda and JoAnne, nieces: Deborah and Maria, and nephew: Dennis.
