Gordon P. Klawitter, age 75, passed away unexpectedly at his home on February 18, 2020.
Born November 29, 1944 to Louis and Louise (St. Mary) Klawitter, Gary IN.
Gordon married Martha Finfgeld, daughter of Charles and Vera in Marion IN on June 1, 1968
After graduating high school in 1963 from River Forest in Hobart IN, Gordon attended Butler University in Indianapolis where he played football and met his true love, Marty. Gordon went on to earn his Master's Degree in Education as well as a degree in School Administration.
Gordon began his career at River Forest Junior High in 1967 teaching geography and social studies, while also coaching high school wrestling. In 1976 he moved his family to Greensburg IN to become assistant principal/athletic director at North Decatur JR/SH. He later became principal at that school.
He and his family lived in Wausau WI from 1983 to 1996 owning and operating the Bonanza Family Restaurant. After leaving Wausau, he held jobs again in education, youth counselor and retail. He enjoyed working part-time during his semi-retirement in Knoxville Tennessee. 2015 brought retirement to Weston WI where he enjoyed again being near his children and grandchildren.
Gordon liked spending time outside doing things around his yard or sitting on the deck watching birds and deer with his wife. He was very proud of all of his children and grandchildren, who meant the world to him and Marty. Playing board games with family was his most enjoyable pastime. Many laughs were had and memories made. Everyone fought to be Gordon's partner since he was not only smart but very comical.
Traveling was a very enjoyable part of his life. He visited 48 states, only missing visits to Delaware and New Jersey. Travels also included the Bahamas with his wife and children. He and Marty also enjoyed two trips to New Zealand and Australia spending time with their friends down under.
Gordon will truly be missed by his wife of 51 years, Marty. His son Steve (Amy) Klawitter, Lake Mills WI and his children Nolan, Remy and Chet. His daughter Mary Dallmann (Deacon DeByle) Weston WI and her children Derek and Sydney. His son Matthew (Camilla Shumaker) Klawitter, Fayetteville AR and her daughter Chloe.
Survived by sister Dorinne (Frank) Richardson, Hobart IN, brother Kenneth (Barb) Klawitter, The Villages FL and sister in law Kathy Klawitter, Dubois IN along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, he was proceeded in death by his brother Robert Klawitter, sister in law Judy Klawitter,brother and sister in law Chuck and Marie Finfgeld, nephew Ben Klawitter and great nephew Joseph Starrick.
A family celebration of Gordon's life will be held at a later date.
