Jerome E. "Speedy" Ziaya, age 58, of Plainfield, formerly of Stevens Point, died Sunday morning, Dec. 17, 2006, at his residence. Born March 21, 1948, in Stevens Point to the late Andrew and Esther (Rybarczyk) Ziaya, he was a 1967 graduate of P.J. Jacobs High School in Stevens Point.
He entered the U.S. Army on May 31, 1967, in Milwaukee. He served as a sergeant, having earned the Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, 2 Overseas Bars and Marksman M-14. His honorable discharge took place on May 29, 1970 at Ft. Dix, New Jersey.
On Dec. 19, 1970, he was married to Christine Lee at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stevens Point. Jerome worked at the Biron Division of Stora Enso for 34 years, retiring in 2003 as a TMP Operator. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, cooking, camping, going to Las Vegas and flower shopping with his wife, Christine. He also enjoyed beating everyone at croquet.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home in Stevens Point with the Rev. Dennis Stanchik officiating. Burial will follow in Guardian Angel Cemetery, Stevens Point. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home and again on Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
