John Stephen Polebitski, 82 of Plover, passed away peacefully at home on October 3, 2025 under the care of hospice after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 21, 1943 to the late Alfred and Sophia (Wallock) Polebitski. He attended local Catholic schools and graduated from Pacelli High School in 1961.
John drove delivery trucks for his uncle's dry-cleaning business until getting hired at Consolidated Papers. There, he worked as a lab technician in the Wisconsin River Division. John joined the division in 1961 as a laborer in the stock prep area. He became a T-1 tester in the lab in 1962 and advanced to technician in 1967. He was involved in a number of installations, including the thermomechanical pulp plant and the groundwood mill. John retired in 1999 after 38 years.
On July 23, 1966 John married Betty Edwards at Saint Peter's Catholic Church. Together they raised their family in the Stevens Point and Plover area.
John loved watching and cheering on the Brewers and doing crossword puzzles in his free time. In his early days, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, shooting pool and mushroom picking. He always looked forward to spending time with his family.
John was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, and lifelong friend and cousin, Dave Schultz.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Betty, and his children; Keith (Shelly), Julie (Greg) Mahr, and Amy (Dale) O'kray. He is further survived by his granddaughter Samantha Harris and several grand-dogs.
