John A. Wasniewski:

81, of 246 Fourth Ave, Stevens Point, died Monday, May 31, 2010 at his home. He was under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice Services. Born October 7, 1928 in Chicago, IL. Son of the late John C. & Elizabeth (Poblocki) Wasniewski.

He attended schools in Chicago. John served in the Army Air Corp from 1946 to 1948. He then moved to Muskegon, Michigan in 1949 where he re-enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 and served in the Korean War in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1953 with a rank of Staff Sergeant. He received the Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal.

His marriage to Dorothy M. Dombeck took place on April 28, 1956 at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Bevent. After the marriage, the couple lived in Muskegon, Michigan until 1968. The family finally settled in Stevens Point where John was employed at St. Michael's Hospital and worked there until he retired in 1988 in the position of Director of Purchasing.

He then worked part-time for the Sisters of Sorrowful Mother, Diversified Health Services Buying Group, calling on hospitals and clinics in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan as a consultant. He retired from this position in 1996.

John was a member of the St. Peter's Holy Name Society, served as Head Usher, served on the Liturgy Committee, Parish Council and Catholic Cemetery Board.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 568, 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Monsignor McGinley Council 1170 and American Legion Post 6.

John also served on the Prostate Support Group and volunteered at the River Front Art Center. He enjoyed reading, painting, history and traveling.

He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Wasniewski of Stevens Point. Daughters: Cathy (Roger) Gorius of Milwaukee, Carla Harstad (David Zick) of Stevens Point, Maria (Guy) Janssen of Stevens Point and Amy (Aaron) Parks of Stevens Point. Sons: John L. (Karen) Wasniewski of Medford, Oregon, Lance E. (Theri) Wasniewski of Brainerd, Minnesota and Louis W. (Hilary) Wasniewski of Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Also survived by 17 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30am Thursday, June 3, 2010 at St. Peter Catholic Church. Rev. Kevin C. Louis officiating. Burial St. Ladislaus Catholic Cemetery, Bevent.

Visitation on Wednesday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home, Stevens Point and again on Thursday from 9:30am until time of services in the St. Faustina Room at the church.

Combined Veterans Ritual at 6:30pm Wednesday and St. Peter's Holy Name along with the Knights of Columbus will pray the rosary at 7:00pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
