Joseph J. Brilowski, age 81, of Stevens Point, died early Saturday morning, July 3, 2010, at Ministry St. Michael's Hospital following a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was under the care of his devoted wife, Mary, his family and Ministry Hospice.

Joseph was born on June 20, 1929, in Stevens Point to the late Joseph T. and Josephine (Jurgella) Brilowski. On May 18, 1953, he was married to Mary Minch at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Milladore.

He served during the Korean War in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 with Company A, 38th Regiment, 2nd Division. He was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant.

Joseph was a truck driver for the Copps Corporation for 36 years before retiring in 1991. In retirement, he worked seasonally for Plover River Farms driving potato trucks.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 1170, Elks Lodge No. 641 and was a former member of the Wisconsin River Lions Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing and was the "best ice fisherman," catching fish when no one else could and was the camp cook up North during deer hunting season. His other interests included making refrigerator pickles by the gallons for his friends and planting his garden and sharing vegetables with family and friends. Joseph loved everyone and everyone loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Stevens Point; daughter, Debra (Tom) Klismith of Plover; sons, Mark (Wendy) of Centerville, Minn., and Michael of Amherst Junction; grandchildren, Brandon Peterson of Gainesville, Fla.; Brett Peterson of Plover, and Joe and Katherine Brilowski of Centerville, Minn.; step-grandchildren, Cole and Karli Klismith of Plover; sister, Isabel (Daniel) Kedrowski of Stevens Point; brothers, Chester (Lorraine), Leonard (Justine), Myron (Janet), Norbert (Rita) all of Stevens Point, and Donald (Christine) of Winter Haven, Fla. He is further survived by many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by brother, Robert; father-and-mother-in-law, Ignatz and Anna Minch; and his son-in-law, John Peterson.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his name.

The family thanks Ministry Hospice and the nursing staff on the second floor of Ministry St. Michael's Hospital.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with the Rev. George Parambukattil officiating. Burial will take place in Guardian Angel Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time for Mass.
