IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry L.
Koy
February 18, 1946 – December 12, 2025
Larry L. Koy, 79, died Friday, December 12, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Talbot, sons Toby (Virginia) Koy and Jamie Koy, granddaughter Georgia Koy, and brother Gary Koy (Carmen Bubar). He was born February 18, 1946 to Hazel and Earl Koy in Chicago, IL and grew up in New Berlin, WI. Larry moved to Stevens Point in 1964 to attend UWSP and lived in the area the rest of his life. After college he worked as a telegraph operator for the Soo Line Railroad and also drove school bus. He worked hard for many years as a Union laborer and retired as a proud Union carpenter.
Larry's family admired his perseverance in dealing with adversity, including Parkinson's Disease at the end of his life. He was our hero; he inspired us. Larry knew his priorities and fashioned a life that matched them, he lived his life on his own terms and he kept going as long as he could. Larry loved the outdoors and had many hobbies including hunting, fishing, gardening, and raising animals. He was a skilled sportsman who appreciated the natural world and held himself and others to high ethical standards. He bonded with friends over ducks, dogs, and bluegills, and enjoyed sharing his love of animals with visitors to his hobby farm, especially children. Larry was an athlete and loved to compete, he played baseball and volleyball long after others his age had retired from sports. He was a superfan of the UWSP Basketball team and followed the team to four National Championships.
Larry was a perennial character and if you met him, you have a story about him. He was a good friend and neighbor and he was known and loved by many. The best way to honor his memory is to spend time enjoying the outdoors and nature. We will hold a celebration of Larry's life this summer, when the weather is warm and the fish are biting.
