Leona Katherine Bembenek, age 84, formerly of Custer died Tuesday, February 16,2016, at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. She was born in Stevens Point on August 13, 1931 to the late Frank and Mary (Kruzitski) Klismith.
She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1950 and married Chester Bembenek Sr. on June 9, 1951 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Chester preceded her in death on September 3, 2009. She worked for Drs. Dunn & Anderson Eye Clinic for many years. After retirement, they lived in Sayner, WI, and then moved to Custer in 1992.
She loved sewing and designing crafts, drapery, upholstery, bedding, pillows and clothes. She also enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Chester Jr., Stevens Point, Marvin (Betty), New Castle CO, Karen (Colin) Glaske, Custer, Alan (Darlene), Junction City, and Linda (William) Culek, New London.
Grandchildren Courtney Bembenek, Ashley Bembenek, Andrea Bembenek, Christa Bembenek, Marissa Glaske, Adam Bembenek, Christian Glaske, and Lily Culek. Great-grandchildren Rhiannon Bembenek and Janessa Kettenbeil.
Also survived by 2 sisters and 1 brother, Amelia Glodoski, Wisconsin Rapids, Betty Skierka, Stevens Point, and Edwin Klismith, Amherst. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters, Henry, Benedict, Regina, Raymond, Frank and Kathleen.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10: 30 a.m. on Monday February 22, 2016, at St. Bronislava Catholic Church Plover. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation on Sunday from 3:00p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Pisarski Community Funeral Home 2911 Plover Road Plover and again on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church. Parish rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
