Leonard F. Soik
Of Stevens Point, died peacefully with the lord on Thursday morning at Lakeview Manor Nursing Home in Weyauwega, WI. Age 80.
Leonard was born October 11, 1928 in the Town of Sharon. He was the son of the late John and Anna (Eron) Soik.
Leonard entered the United States Army on September 19, 1952 in Milwaukee, WI. He served with the HQ Co. 5043 SU Pars Center. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, the Korean Service Ribbon with two bronze service stars, the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on June 9, 1954 at Fort Sheridan, IL.
Leonard married the former Gertrude Tokarski on May 7, 1955 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Mill Creek. After their marriage,they lived in Milwaukee, where he worked for Ladish Co as a steeplejack. They then moved back to Stevens Point, where he worked for Joerns, Lullaby, Skalski Co.,Bake Rite and retiring from Stevens Point Concrete in 1991.
His wife, Gertrude, preceded him in death on February 12, 2009.
His favorite past time was spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved fishing and hunting, doing picture puzzles, playing cards and making maple syrup at his cottage and gardening where he was noted for his large strawberries.
Survivors include one daughter, Sally (Jerry) Bukowski. His three grandchildren, Jeremy (Jennifer) Bukowski, Marcy (Eric) Stenstrom and Becky Bukowski. His two great-granddaughters, Ada and Naomi Stenstrom.
He is also survived by two brothers, Henry (Theresa) Soik and David (Audrey) Soik.
Leonard was preceded in death by three brothers, Steve, Raymond and Richard and two sisters, Evelyn and Theresa.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M Monday at St. Stephen's Catholic Church. Rev. Kevin C. Louis officiating. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 9:30 A.M. Monday at the church until the time for mass. There will be a parish rosary said at 10:00 A.M. at the church.
