Lorraine Alice (Stremkowski) Lundgren, age 96, of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at Harris Hospital in Mansfield, Texas after a short illness on January 21, 2026.
Lorraine was born at home on the family farm in Buena Vista, Wisconsin on December 4, 1929 to her parents, Zigmund Stremkowski and Clara Maciejewski. She was the sixth of thirteen children, with five brothers and seven sisters. Lorraine often reminisced about growing up on the farm, doing chores from sunup to sundown, and playing with her siblings in the evenings while her father watched and smoked a corn cob pipe, and her mother cared for the youngest children.
She attended school in a one-room schoolhouse in Liberty Corners, walking a mile and a half to school, often through heavy snow. During severe snowstorms, her father would pick up the children in a horse-drawn sleigh. Lorraine later attended PJ Jacobs High School, where the children received two weeks off every October to pick potatoes. They worked hard all day, with only a lunch break, and their reward for the effort was an ice cream cone. In her senior year, Lorraine moved in with her grandmother and worked after school serving malts, sundaes, and cones at the ice cream counter at Gwidts Drug Store.
After Graduation Lorraine got a job at Plover-Whitling Paper Mill and worked there until meeting her lifelong love, Leroy in 1947. They married on June 30,1951 and as was the norm at that time, she quit her job to raise a family. A couple months before the wedding, LeRoy and Lorraine arranged to move into an upstairs apartment at a home in Stevens Point. When they came back from their honeymoon, the homeowners said they wanted to sell the house and move back to Chicago. With a down payment of $500 loaned by Lorraine’s father, they purchased the house for $9000. They rented the downstairs and lived upstairs for 1 year. When the couple downstairs moved out, they moved downstairs and rented the upstairs and lived in the same house until Lorraine recently moved to Texas to Live with her daughter Carol and son-in-law Mike.
After the kids left the nest Lorraine worked at Journal Printing for 25 years until retirement.
Lorraine remained active throughout her life, enjoying sewing, bowling, swimming, puzzles, and was known for her skill at card games and was heavily involved in the Senior Olympics from 1997 thru 2009 winning several ribbons. She was a devout Catholic and participated actively in her local church. Lorraine possessed a sharp wit, loved children, and maintained her energetic spirit until the end of her life.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy, and her daughter, Janice Timm. She is survived by her daughters, Marie Flanagin and husband Doug and Carol McMahan and husband Mike, and her Son-in-Law, Bob Timm, as well as her grandchildren Kris and Patrick McMahan, Angie Flanagin, Kerry Bouchard, Jeff, Jason, and Jamie Kresh, and 10 great grandchildren.
Lorraine was known for her lively personality, her love of family, and her deep care for others. She made those around her feel valued and cherished, and her presence brought warmth and joy to every gathering. She talked of loving to dance during her high school years and said she “could do every dance there was to dance”.
We will all cherish the time we spent with Lorraine, and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Lorraine will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 1401 Clark Street, Stevens Point. Rev. Jeffery Hennes will officiate.
