Mark Steven Milkowski, age 64, of Stevens Point, died early Monday morning, September 17, 2018 at his home following a battle with cancer.
Mark was born October 15, 1953 in St. Louis, MO. He is the son of Margaret "Marge" (Stanton) Milkowski and the late Gerald "Gerry" Milkowski. He moved to the Milwaukee area with his family at the age of 3. He attended school in Milwaukee, graduating from Milwaukee James Madison High school in 1971.
After high school Mark came to the Stevens Point area to attend the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and later met the love of his life and future wife Cynthia Stanke. They were married on May 12, 1979 at St. Peters Catholic Church. After their marriage the couple settled in the Stevens Point / Plover area.
Mark owned and operated a number of businesses, including Quality Beverage , The Bottle Stop, and recently owned and operated several Subway Restaurants in the Wausau area.
Mark was a genuine individual of exceptional integrity. He volunteered his time to numerous booster clubs and fund raising organizations within SPACS (Stevens Point Area Catholic Schools) and PWYA (Plover Whiting Youth Athletics). Whether it was calling bingo at St. Stan's, organizing the Fall Festival at St. Peter's, or serving on the "Big Red" Athletic committee at Pacelli High School, he donated his time willingly for others.
He served on the Board of Directors of the Plover Whiting Youth Athletics for over 20 years, and was an integral part in the development of the Woyak Sports Complex. Mark enjoyed coaching his sons Joe and Jim throughout their youth in baseball, football, and basketball and was an avid supporter of Wisconsin sports.
For those who knew him, he will be remembered for his patience and calm temperament. Whether it was at home in Wisconsin or down in St. Pete Beach, FL, Mark and Cindy enjoyed spending time in the company of their good friends. Mark was a generous man with a generous laugh, a wonderful sense of humor, a man of unsurpassed character. He was a romantic at heart but not all knew it; nor of the chivalry he displayed as was his humble nature. He will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, a college fund in Mark's name will be established for the granddaughters.
Survivors include his wife Cindy, his two sons; Joe, and Jim (Ashley Pinkert) both of Wausau, his two grandchildren Penelope "Poppy" and Livea, and his Mother Margaret "Marge" Milkowski of Stevens Point.
Further survived by his siblings; Brian ( Judy), Suzy, Keith, Neil (Heidi) and Doug.
