Mary D. Nitka

91, formerly of 425 Meadow Street, died Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Harmony Assisted Living in Stevens Point. She was under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice Services.

Born August 22, 1917 in the town of Sharon. Daughter of the late Frank & Pauline (Rekowski) Ostrowski. She attended local schools.

Her marriage to Edward Nitka took place on May 3, 1947 at St. Adalbert Catholic Church, Rosholt; after the marriage, the couple settled in Stevens Point. Her husband, Edward, died on February 22, 1995.

Mary was a homemaker. Mary was a 50 year member of the St. Peter's Rosary Society Rose #50, Secular Order of St. Francis and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Chapter 30.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, being a homemaker and she volunteered her time to various organizations.

Survivors include her sons: Ronald Nitka of Stevens Point and Myron Nitka of Wisconsin Rapids. Daughters: Marge (Chuck) Youse of Henrico, North Carolina, and Doris Seitz of Verona. Son-in-law: Rick McNiff of Stevens Point.

Brothers: Sylvester Ostrowski of Iola, Dennis (Kathleen) Ostrowski of Menominee Falls and Frank (Kathy) Ostrowski of Ogdensburg. Sisters: Martha Jazdzewski of Oak Creek, Theresa Dryszel of Lyle, Illinois and Valerie Thompson of Iola.

Preceded in death by Sisters: Irene Korpalski, Anna Pochinski, Regina Wojtalewicz. Brothers: Raymond, Felix, Henry, Nick and Alois Ostrowski. Daughter: Kathy McNiff.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at St. Peter Catholic Church. Rev. Kevin C. Louis officiating. Burial will follow in the Guardian Angel Cemetery.

Visitation on Monday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home, 703 Second Street, Stevens Point, and again on Tuesday from 9:30am until time of service in the St. Faustina Room at the church.

D.A.V. Auxiliary ritual at 6:30pm. St. Peter Rosary Society, Secular Order of St. Francis and the Knights of Columbus, of which her son Ronald is a member, will combine with the parish rosary at 7:00pm Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mary's name to St. Peter's Catholic Church.
