Mildred M. Guzman

89, of Stevens Point, died peacefully Wednesday, February 20, 2013. She resided at Harmony Assisted Living for the past three years and was under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice Services.

"Millie" was born March 9, 1923, in Stevens Point. She was the daughter of the late Carl & Lillian (Borchardt) Phillips.

She attended local grade school and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1941. After graduation, she worked at Hardware Mutual and married Emil Guzman on September 28, 1946. After their marriage, the couple settled in Stevens Point. Her husband, Emil, died on August 4, 2010.

She was a dedicated stay at home Mom and in later years, accepted the position of head cook at the American Legion and also worked at the Stevens Point Journal for a time. She was a member of the American Legion Post 6 Auxiliary and enjoyed reading, cross word puzzles and going to plays and musical concerts with her dear friend, Ann.

She also loved all God's creatures, especially her cat "Hannah."


Survivors include her daughters, Donna (Greg) Mykisen of Bancroft & Judy Guzman (Joe, significant other) of Stevens Point. Grandson, Bryan Mykisen (Kara, significant other) of Theresa, WI. Millie is further survived by a sister, Dorie Beicher of Madison, and brothers, Joseph (Shirley) Phillips of Stevens Point, Frederick (Mary) Phillips of Waukegan, Illinois, and James Phillips of Stevens Point.

Millie was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Guzman. Two brothers, Paul, and infant brother, Carl Jr.

There will be a memory service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at the Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home, 703 Second Street, Stevens Point. Rev. Arul Joseph V. will officiate. Visitation on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. American Legion Auxiliary ritual at 10:45 a.m.

Her body will be cremated and burial will take place in the Guardian Angel Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mildred's name may be made to your favorite charitable organization, Ministry Home Care Hospice Service, or the Salvation Army.
