Nancy A. Prellwitz

Nancy Ann Prellwitz, formerly Johnson, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Timber Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She was 76 years old.

A Service of Faith and Remembrance for Nancy will be held on Friday, October 2nd, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2000 Roosevelt Drive, Plover, Wisconsin. Pastor Karen Rendall will be leading the service. There will be a visitation for family and friends from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the church. Pisarski Funeral Homes are honored to be serving Nancy’s Family.

Nancy was born on April 8, 1950, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson, North Dakota to Bernard and Ethel Johnson (Roen). She was their third child, their first daughter and one of six children. She was raised on the family farm and ranch, five miles north of Reeder. Nancy was baptized, confirmed and married at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Reeder. She graduated from Reeder High School in 1968, attended Concordia College, Moorhead MN for one year and went on to attend Rapid City Business College. After graduation, Nancy was employed as a secretary in Rapid City. She married Dayton Johnson in 1971 and they moved to Omaha, Nebraska for Dayton’s insurance business. They had a son, Dayle Johnson, born in 1973, and a daughter Melody Johnson who died in infancy. After a divorce, Nancy returned to Dickinson where she and Dayle lived. She worked as a secretary throughout her time in Dickinson. She married Mark Prellwitz on February 2, 1992, and, a few years later, they moved to Wisconsin for job opportunities. Upon their arrival, Nancy became employed at Sentry Insurance Company, spending the rest of her career there as an administrative professional.

Due to her strong Lutheran upbringing, trust in God and the loving support of her family, Nancy bravely and calmly handled her son Dayle’s medical challenges. Dayle was diagnosed at age 11 with Ewing’s Sarcoma which eventually took his life in 1995. Despite the slow devastation of this disease, Dayle graduated from Dickinson High School and attended and excelled at Concordia College, Moorhead MN. He had a natural talent for computers and he and Nancy were very close. She nursed him throughout years of chemotherapy and experimental treatments but lovingly gave him the freedom to be a teenager and to enjoy his friendships with others. While Nancy deeply grieved Dayle’s passing, she always spoke about him with happiness, laughter and appreciation for his life.

Nancy was a devoted mother who read to Dayle for hours daily when he was young. She also shared her love of reading with her youngest sister, inspiring both Dayle and Eva to become lifelong readers. Nancy played piano and she enjoyed participating in church vocal and bell choirs. She inherited this talent and appreciation of music from her mother’s Roen family roots. She took pleasure in making the Norwegian Christmas cookies our mother always made, and replicated our mom’s banana bread, cakes and other delicacies. She had the distinction of being one of only two family members who shared our mother’s fondness for lutefisk. Nancy cared deeply for her family and cherished seeing pictures and videos of grand-nieces and nephews. She never forgot a birthday and always was supportive and kind.

Nancy appreciated her dogs and cats throughout her life. Her most recent dog, Miley, was her pride and joy—a faithful little white companion whom she missed until the end. Nancy and Mark enjoyed their home, neighbors, and especially their yard,where they worked together to grow vegetables and flowers. Nancy retired from Sentry Insurance in 2015 but continued to volunteer with various activities at her church. She was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in July 2026 and was hospitalized until her death.

Nancy is survived by her brother Lee Johnson (Dianne), Harland Johnson (Faunne), Adele Johnson (Mark), Eva Wilson (Robert) and Brian Johnson (Juli), former sister-in-law Roxanne Vondrachek (Johnson) and many beloved nieces, nephews and grand -nieces and nephews including cousins from the Roen and Johnson sides of the family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Bernard Johnson, her children, Melody and Dayle Johnson and former spouse, Dayton Johnson.
