Norbert (Nubbs) Miller, 94 of Stevens Point, passed peacefully from his earthly life on December 9th, 2025. Born on June 8th, 1931, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Norbert was one of six children born to John and Clara Miller.
Norbert attended and graduated from St. Joseph’s elementary school, P.J. Jacobs High School, and Central State Teachers College (now UW Stevens Point). His college days were put on hold by his duties in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He then returned to UWSP to complete his degree and finish his football endeavors. Norbert will be remembered for his stellar athletic accomplishments. Included among these achievements were the Little All American football award in 1952 and 1955. Earning the Col Hersey award and outstanding freshman athlete for 1950-51. He was awarded college all-conference status from 1952-1955, was the 2nd leading small college rusher in the nation in 1955, gaining 1158 yards. Norbert’s football jersey was retired at UWSP in 1980, along with him being inducted into their Hall of Fame.
Following his UWSP days, Norbert signed and played preseason football with the Baltimore Colts. Upon finishing his days with the Colts, he returned to Stevens Point to marry his sweetheart, Delores Slowinski. As they raised their 4 children, Norbert served in the field of education as a teacher, athletic director, and coach of football, basketball, baseball, golf, and track at Pacelli High School from 1957-1993. Many can remember their Driver’s Education days with Mr. Miller at Pacelli. Following his retirement, he continued at Pacelli part time for 9 years. He also served as a Stevens Point alderman for the 5th ward for 26 years.
Norbert will be remembered for his stories of how he met Delores as her high school bus driver. She was a senior in high school, and he drove bus to help his way through college. Norbert was forever the softest hearted grandpa and great grandpa. He let everyone know his support for his grandkid's teams, the Brewers, Badgers, the Green Bay Packers, UWSP Pointers, and his Pacelli Cardinals. He loved the Miller family tradition of a Brewer weekend that started 20+ years ago. This tradition will continue, with Norbert holding his seat. The family will most likely get to the stadium parking lot hours before they opened, because that’s what he liked.
Norbert had a gift for storytelling and loved sharing memories of his life. Whether it was recounting his days in the Army, reliving the excitement of his football days, or painting vivid pictures of his childhood adventures, his stories brought laughter, wisdom, and connection to those around him. His ability to make the past come alive was one of the many ways he showed his love for family and friends. Norbert looked to keep others happy, often visiting those who couldn’t get out, or offering an afternoon drive for someone who enjoyed a countryside ride.
Toward the end, Norbert enjoyed his daily, if not twice daily, rides around the countryside and backwoods. He knew which roads he wanted to take and assumed his driver and passengers knew also. He continued to role-play his days as a Driver Ed. Instructor, often correcting his driver’s not –so- great driving skills. And he could do all this with his eyes closed.
Norbert was the last remaining child of John and Clara Miller. Deceased siblings and spouses include: Virginia (Kenneth) Magalska, Norma(Robert) Newell, Audrey (Dennis) Berg, John "Buddy” (Patricia) Miller, and Jerome” Jerry” (Jeanette) Miller.
Also preceding Norbert in passing are his wife Delores and sons Kenneth and Kevin.
Norbert is survived by his daughters, Karen (Jeff) Small, Kim (Tom) Bannach, and Kristie (Todd) Strebig. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Niki Dee (Thomas) Trumble, Cally (Ryan) Haessley, Alissa (Aaron) Larson, Taylor Gordon, and Scott (Veronica) Small.
He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren; Rian Trumble, Cain Trumble, Cole Trumble, Isla Larson, and Kaia Larson.
Norbert was a man whose life was deeply rooted in faith. His unwavering trust in God guided every step he took and shaped the way he loved, served, and cared for others. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, hope, and grace that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Aspirus at Home Hospice team. Their services and support were greatly appreciated by the family. Norbert’s family intends to use funeral donations to support local organizations that he was fond of.
