Raymond H. Kawleski, age 83, of Stevens Point, passed away early Friday morning, Oct. 1, 2010, at home while under the care of his family and Ministry Home Care Hospice Services.

He was born on March 15, 1927, in Stevens Point, to the late Anton and Lucy (Tetzloff) Kawleski and attended St. Peter's Grade School and was a 1945 graduate of P.J. Jacobs High School.

Raymond entered the U.S. Army on June 23, 1945, in Milwaukee. He served in Italy during World War II and earned the Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal-Germany. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 17, 1947, at the rank of Tech 5 in Ft. Sheridan, Illinois.

On Nov. 8, 1947, Raymond was married to Violet Knich at St. Casimir Catholic Church. He worked for the Kimberly Clark Paper Mill in Whiting as a millwright before his retirement in 1989.

Raymond was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1170 and V.F.W. Post No. 568. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, home maintenance, traveling, carpentry and an occasional trip to the casino. He could fix anything and had a strong compassion for animals. Raymond has served as assessor and supervisor for the town of Dewey. He had also been a 4-H Leader.

Survivors include his wife, Violet, of Stevens Point; his daughters, Patricia (Tom) Mrozinski of Mosinee, Mary (Chester) Dombrowski of Stevens Point, Bonnie (Elroy) Ziolkowski of Stevens Point and Peggy (Mark) Mason of Marshfield; brothers, Dan (Judy) Kawleski of Stevens Point and Jim (Joan) Kawleski of Wisconsin Rapids; grandchildren, Jenny (Jeff) Tewes, Becky (Don) Kulinski, Beth (Russell) Rydberg, Sarah (Paul) Gwidt, Nicole (Lance) Kropidlowski and Megan Ziolkowski; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Meta, Isaac, Lucy, Juniper, Kade and Layla; two step-great-granddaughters, Emelia and Aubrey Mason.

In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

The family thanks Dr. Mercier and staff at Marshfield Clinic Oncology Department.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Raymond's name at a later date.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Casimir Catholic Church, in the town of Hull, with the Rev. Wesley Janowski officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home in Stevens Point and again on Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time for Mass. Members of Knights of Columbus Council No. 1170 will combine with the parish rosary to be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
