Richard G. Varga:

Age 41, of Stevens Point, died Wednesday afternoon, July 10, 2013 peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Rick was born September 21, 1971 in Stevens Point. He is the son of Nancy (Walter) Peterson of Stevens Point and the late Martin Varga.

He attended local schools, graduating from Stevens Point Area Senior High (SPASH) in 1991.

Rick entered the United States Army on January 22, 1991 in Milwaukee, WI. He was a combat engineer, earned his parachute wings and was in the Army Airborne, then went on in training for the Maroon Beret.

He received the National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Sharp Shooters Qualification Badge for the M16 Rifle and the Explosives Qualification Badge for Hand Grenades. He was discharged on February 18, 1993 at Fort Leonard Wood, MS.

Rick loved working with PaPa Joe Jakusz in Mosinee doing his Furs and hides and making his specialty hats. He also enjoyed helping out at Cyran's Minnowing and Bait Shop.

Rick was an outdoorsman and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

In lieu of flowers, a Memorial in Rick's name will be established at a later date.

He is survived by his mother and step-father, Nancy (Walter) Peterson of Stevens Point.

His four brothers: Martin (Terri) Varga of Amherst, WI, Steve (Vicki) Varga of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, William (Sue) Varga of Stevens Point, and Daniel Varga of Stevens Point.

His sister: Jen Varga of Wisconsin Rapids, and one step-sister: Beki Stanislawski of Stevens Point.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home, 703 Second St. Stevens Point. Rev. Marcin Mankowski officiating. Burial will full Military Honors will follow in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 9:00 AM Saturday at the Funeral Home until the time for services. Richard's family would like to personally thank Nick Check for all his help with Rick and also House Calls of Menominee for their assistance. Special thanks goes out to the V.A. Staff of Madison and Bay Pines, FL, for their special care given to Rick. Also for a heartfelt "thank you" to Rick's special friends who came to visit him, especially Linda Firkus who never forgot him. To all his aunts and uncles and family and friends who always cared for him. We would also like to thank the Pisarski Funeral Home for their kindness and direction given to us.
