He had a remarkable gift for making others feel seen, heard, and supported, and his kindness touched the lives of many.

Russell Eugene Lowe Jr., 68, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on July 1, 2026, at Aspirus Hospital in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

Russ, as he liked to be called, was born on January 11, 1958, in Waupaca, Wisconsin, to Barbara Jane Lowe and Russell Lowe.

After his childhood, Russ earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh, laying the foundation for a successful career in the building and lumber industry. He was a constant traveler throughout his career, working in sales for Pluswood and International Paper - traveling across the Midwest, Canada, and many parts of the United States. Eventually, Russ became the President of 41 Lumber in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Later in life, Russ decided to return to his passion for working with his hands, doing carpentry and painting, which had been part of his early career. Russ was steady with a brush and knew his craft as a painter better than most, but he never boasted about it. He was humbly confident in his abilities.

Russ will be remembered for the way he cared for others. One of his greatest strengths was his ability to listen and empathize with those around him. As a dedicated sponsor in the AA community, he generously shared his time, encouragement, and experience with countless sponsees. He had a remarkable gift for making others feel seen, heard, and supported, and his kindness touched the lives of many. Whether offering a listening ear, thoughtful advice, or quiet encouragement, Russ made a lasting difference in the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.

Through all of this though, Russ enjoyed the simple things in life. A bag of peanut M&M’s didn’t stand a chance in his presence and a dog wasn’t going to go un-pet if it came near Russ. Spending time on the golf course was also a hobby Russ loved to do with his friends and family. The Green Bay Packers were one of his favorite topics, and he wouldn’t be shy telling you how he’d run the team. He was knowledgeable in sports, and was an avid reader of sports books from any discipline amassing a solid library of his own. He loved music too and would be caught singing along to Bob Dylan as he got his paint brush ready for some detail work around crown moulding.

Above all else, Russ cherished the peacefulness and calm of the family cabin in Harshaw, Wisconsin. He set the tone for hard work and even harder play with his family there. His rule was to work hard in the morning and play all afternoon. Russ built a place filled with laughter and unforgettable memories. You'd find him and his family there on any weekend they could. He especially loved being behind the wheel of the boat going for an evening cruise with his family or spending time behind the boat on his solemn ski.

Russ was a kind and loving father who was always there to listen and help how he could. Even in difficult times, he found a way to make someone smile. He never put himself first and always wanted to make sure those around him were taken care of.

A Celebration of Russ's life will be held at a later date and communicated by his surviving family.
