Sylvester M. Kawlewski
Of the Town of Almond, died unexpectedly Wednesday at his home. Age 91.
Sylvester was born November 24, 1923 in the Town of Eau Pleine.. He was the son of the late Joseph and Frances (Kieliszewski) Kawlewski. He attended local schools in the area.
He entered the United States Army on July 20, 1944 in Milwaukee, WI. He was a heavy duty truck driver during World War II. Sylvester served in the Southern Philippines and Luzon. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Army Occupation Medal of Japan, Meritorious Unit Award, Two overseas Service Bars and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on on August 9, 1946 at Camp McCoy.
Sylvester was married to the former Lucille Liebe for a number of years, and then married Patsy Hahn which both ended in divorce. He then married Hattie Swiander and she preceded him in death in November of 1999.
Sylvester ran his own milk route after his military service and also worked for American Motors for a number of years. He then owned and operated Merchants Delivery Services until his retirement. After his retirement he worked for Prairie Star Farms for a number of years until the age of 85.
He was a member of the Mead-Rath-Gutke American Legion Post #339 of Almond and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Poysippi.
Sylvester enjoyed the outdoors with hunting and fishing and enjoyed visiting with his friends after mass every Sunday at church.
Survivors include his children Betty Cornwell of Roseville, MN, Shirley (Bob) Niemczyk of Plainfield, Mildred (Roger) Zblewski of Plover, Judy Kropidlowski, Tom (Cheryl) Kawlewski and Larry Kawlewski all of Stevens Point., Rose (Joe) Salvinski of Mosinee, Ken (Audrey) Kawlewski of South Beloit, IL, Dan (Laurie) Kawlewski of Bancroft, Linda (Randy) Krutza of Belvidere, IL, Debra Kluck of Plover and Jesse Kawlewski of Milladore.
His step children Ricky Bella , Joe (Jackie) Bella both of Plover, Irene Peterson of Stevens Point, Jason Hahn and David Bella both of Wisconsin Rapids.
43 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
One Brother Edward (Delores) Kawlewski of Plover and his three sisters Alvina (Albert) King of Rudolph and Christine Garski and Eleanor (Edward) Grywacz both of Plover.
He was preceded in death by and infant son Donald, two son-in-laws Corky Kluck and Dave Cornwell and six brothers and one sister.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M Tuesday April 7, 2015 at the Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home in Stevens Point. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday at the Pisarski Funeral Home and from 9:30 A.M. Tuesday morning until the time of services. The American Legion Post #339 of Almond will have a funeral ritual at 6:30 P.M followed by the general rosary at 7:00 P.M. Monday evening.
