William J. Tepp, of Park Ridge, died Friday afternoon, Sep. 25, 2009, at his home after a brief battle with lung cancer at the age of 81. The family would like to express gratitude to family and friends who offered their support and to Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services for the assistance and comfort they provided.

William "Bill" was born September 25, 1928, in Stevens Point. He was the son of the late William and Helen (Adams) Tepp.

Bill entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 10, 1951, in Milwaukee and was honorably discharged on Dec. 16, 1952, at Fort Custer, Michigan, as a private first class.

On Oct. 11, 1958, Bill was married to the former Cecilia Grulkowski at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Cecilia preceded him in death on Oct. 20, 1997.

Bill drove semi-truck for 28 years for the Bake-Rite Baking Company until his retirement in 1984.

He was a devoted husband and father and an avid outdoorsman with a deep appreciation for nature. He loved spending time with his family and a few special friends, gardening, hunting (especially deer camp) and following sports, but his true passion was fishing. Bill was never more at home then when he was fishing the trout streams and lakes of Wisconsin. In recent years, he also enjoyed the community garden he shared with his neighbors, Jean and Lucille.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara (James) Smurawa of Appleton; and his three sons, William H. (Heidi) Tepp of Stoughton, Robert (Patty Fox) Tepp of Oconomowoc, and Jon (Julie) Tepp of Waunakee; his ten grandchildren, Justin (Rosa) Smurawa, Angela Smurawa and Alexander Smurawa, Sydney and Samantha Tepp, Katherine, Sarah and Ryan Tepp, and Brynn and Josie Tepp; and his one great-granddaughter, Stella Smurawa.

He is further survived by two sisters, Geraldine (Richard, deceased) Higgins and Kathleen (Richard) Zdroik; and two brothers, Alan (Kathy) and Edward (Gail) Tepp.

Bill was preceded in death by an infant sister.
